SUNSHINE IN HOUSTON
This March, Lalie with her Lilley Lines in hand, heads to Texas to check out the iconic Houston Livestock and Rodeo, shop at the Phoenicia Food Market and tour Astro's Daikin Stadium as the crew prepares for opening day . . .
Phoenicia Foods
This specialty market has been serving downtown Houston for over 40 years with a store full of mouthwatering delights. We enjoyed our lunch in their adorable bar and restaurant and then filled up my Lilley totes with all the sweet treat souvenirs we picked up for family and friends.
Houston's Annual Livestock & Rodeo
Gitty up and go! This is an all day affair where folks can experience a carnival of Texan rides, food, drink and specialty shopping. It's BIG and a BIG DEAL because the Houston Rodeo comes to life every March for only a 3 weeks and electrifies the city. My family enjoyed learning about prize heifers and farming in the livestock arenas and we made many friends in the petting zoo (not just for kids!) Eventually we hustled our way to NRG Stadium in time for an impressive rodeo, including bucking and barrel racing and lots of talented roping. And just when you think it couldn't get more exciting, out comes Zach Topp - country music's newest rising star on literally a rotating Texas size star stage!
It was so much fun, but to be honest, it was a full-on sticky day. I was glad my Lilley Line totes are completely washable.
2025 Rodeo runs through Sunday March 23
Behind the Scenes Tour of Astro's Daikin Stadium

If you are a baseball fan, March is filled with hope and anticipation for opening day. But even if you are not an Astro fan, Daikin Stadium is quite impressive with its retractable roof and finely manicured fields. Fans and players don't need to sweat in Houston's infamous heat when they have a fully air-conditioned park.
We were too early to catch an Astro's game but we did get an amazing behind the scenes tour that started in the original structure, the city's former railroad station, and continued through facility up to VIP Suites and press boxes and down into the dugout. Play ball Lilley Liners!
Alas, our trip was too short to explore so much more of H-Town's offerings – art, shopping, fine dining, theatre, dance, music, universities and of course the Johnson Space Center. We'll be back Houston!
